About the EOS/ESD Symposium

Your gateway to learning about the latest technical innovations in the area of ESD.  The Technical Program includes 52 outstanding papers, including 2 invited exchange papers, spread across 12 technical sessions covering hot topics in the categories of Advanced CMOS, Case Studies, High Voltage and RF ESD challenges, Device Physics and Modeling, ESD EDA tools, Factory and Materials, System Level ESD and ESD testing.  A quick overview of the different technical sessions is presented below.

Education: The Symposium starts with a set of academic and professional certification Tutorials on Sunday and Monday, then continues on Thursday. All tutorial content was renewed by our distinguished instructors to reflect the latest research and application developments in the past year.

8 New and 10 Revised Tutorials will be offered in 2011

·         Device Technology and Failure Analysis Overview

·         Determining the Impact of Static Control Methods

Technical Sessions

Science: The Technical Program will span Tuesday to Thursday with outstanding talks presenting on many hot topics related to the phenomena of static electricity, applications, and control methods. Over 50 papers will be presented on ESD topics such as:

  • On-Chip Protection for Advanced CMOS
  • Smart Power and High Voltage
  • CMOS Device and Circuit Case Studies
  • High Speed/ Voltage Physics Based ESD Analysis Techniques
  • Factory, Materials, and Process Simulation
  • Reliability Physics in IC, MEMS, and Packaging
  • System Level Testing ESD Electronic Design Automation
  • Component and System Level Testing and Simulation
  • TLP, HBM and CDM Device Testers and Methods

Workshops are a place to share professional issues and experiences, find solutions or openly discuss ideas with supporters or critics. The program of workshops on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon will provide you the forums to talk and comment, receive feedback and learn from colleagues in a 'no necktie' environment. Workshops will focus on:

  • Is a manufacturing and handling standard compatible with 50 volt CDM ICs in reach?
  • Two-pin tester vs. standard matrix tester - What can we gain? What are we losing?
  • What are the requirements of IC level ESD concepts and verification to 3rd party IP and PDKs of foundries? Can they (IP vendors/foundries) deliver?
  • Can TLP replace HBM, IEC, and HMM?
  • ESD design wants a CDM current target, while ESD control uses CDM voltage - what is the right approach to specify CDM robustness?
  • Field induced-CDM: Was it really ever ready for being a qualification standard?
  • Where should the industry go - to contacted (C)CDM method or other?

2011 will offer a workshop format with no formal panel. Come to the workshops with enthusiasm and get working on your ESD issues!

Industry Exhibits, Generating new research challenges and offering new ESD products and services, our colleagues from many companies will be happy to meet you in the Exhibit Hall, starting with the Welcome Reception on Monday evening till the exhibits close on Wednesday afternoon. Use this unique opportunity to find the ESD product or service you have been looking for during the year or just talk to the professionals with hands-on experience on static control methods, evaluation techniques, ESD hardware and many other ESD business matters.

2011 will host a new DEMO Day for Exhibitors to share their products and services
